Qantas Frequent Flyers! Here’s your chance to be part of history onboard one of Qantas’ last commercial 747 flights to Los Angeles.

Qantas has announced today it will operate another ‘Points Plane‘, to give frequent flyers a chance to farewell one of its remaining Boeing 747s.

The dedicated frequent flyer redemption flight will depart Sydney for Los Angeles on 13 October 2019 and be operated on the last commercial service of VH-OJU, a Boeing 747-400 delivered to Qantas in 2000.

Frequent Flyer members will have exclusive access to premium cabins from today until midnight 2 September.

Members can book seats in Business, Premium Economy and Economy at the standard Qantas Points redemption rate for the route.

Any remaining seats after the first week of sale can be purchased as per usual as commercial or Points Plus Pay tickets.

Return flights can be booked as a standard commercial ticket or reward seat booking.

Points Planes are one of several initiatives Qantas Frequent Flyer has introduced this year to reward members and provide more redemption opportunities. The first was announced in May and will operate from Melbourne to Tokyo (Narita).

Since her delivery to Qantas 19 years ago, the Boeing 747 (OJU) has flown approximately 80 million kilometres, which is the equivalent of 20,000 trips around the world.

After arriving in Los Angeles, the aircraft will be transferred over to a new (as yet, undisclosed) operator to continue her flying career.

Following OJU’s exit from the fleet, Qantas will have six Boeing 747-400ER remaining aircraft that will be phased out from the fleet by the end of 2020.

Qantas Points required for booking seats on this Points Plane:

  • Economy – 41,900 Qantas Points*
  • Premium Economy – 72,000 Qantas Points*
  • Business – 96,000 Qantas Points*
