The Love Boat’s famous bartender Isaac (AKA American star Ted Lange) visited Australia recently to celebrate the return of the much-loved Pacific Princess to Sydney in December 2020.

We got the chance to chat to Ted during his trip Down Under, so we picked his brain about everything from his favourite memories during filming on Pacific Princess, to why Aussies should get on board when she returns.

What is your fondest memory of Pacific Princess?

Pacific Princess

After 10 years of filming the Love Boat, I have many, many fond memories of Pacific Princess. I was lucky enough to travel to some amazing destinations, including Australia. We also got to work with some brilliant guest stars over the years including Tom Hanks, Betty White and Andy Warhol.

The bar of course!

Have you been onboard Pacific Princess since filming?

I haven’t been on Pacific Princess since filming but I sure would love to join one of the cruises she has leaving out of Sydney in December 2020.

What would you say the biggest differences are in cruising between now and the 70s/80s?

So much has changed. I would say there has been a culinary reinvention. Today you can find healthy-dining choices and specialty restaurants – you’re spoilt for choice.

Where was your favourite place you visited during filming?

You mean, besides Australia? I love sailing the Caribbean. In fact, I love that region so much that I created a cocktail inspired by the tropical breeze and flavours of the country. Called the Isaac, it’s available on all Princess cruise ships and even features my signature double point!

Can passengers on the new Pacific Princess still get an ‘Isaac’ signature cocktail?

They sure can! And if you’d like to make it at home, all you need is rum, fresh lime juice, pomegranate syrup and soda. Add all ingredients and ice cubes to a cocktail shaker (except for the soda) and shake shake shake like James Bond (don’t stir it!). Strain into a glass, garnish with two pineapple leaves and lime and top up your glass with soda.

Why would you encourage Aussies to sail on Pacific Princess?

You guys LOVE to cruise, did you know Australians are the biggest cruisers outside of the United States? I like to think The Love Boat has helped to build up Aussie’s love for ocean holidays. Over 5 per cent of the Australian population took a cruise last year.

Australians also have a deep affection for Pacific Princess. Not only did she pioneer premium cruising from Australia, but she was also christened in Sydney.

Pacific Princess is going to sail on itineraries that Aussies are going to love – including an epic 90-day roundtrip voyage from Sydney around South America, a 13-night cruise visiting ports on New Zealand’s south island and a special 21-night sailing to remote locations in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
