Great Journeys New Zealand has introduced a slew of new experiences for its 2023–24 rail touring season, boarding from September 2023. Passengers can enjoy more immersive regional journeys with premium experiences on and off the train.
The Great Journeys New Zealand (GJNZ) Signature Touring Range for 2023–24 will include an elevated onboard experience and additional off-train excursions.
A new Scenic Plus seating carriage with large panoramic windows and an exclusive outdoor viewing carriage is expected to be introduced on the TranzAlpine next summer.
Scenic Plus offers a premium dining experience with regionally inspired cuisine paired with local wine and beer, personalised host service and VIP boarding and luggage check-in.
Signature Tours travelling on the TranzAlpine will incorporate this brand-new carriage when available.

In addition, Signature Tours will also include an optional Haast River safari experience on the West Coast and a unique dining experience at Christchurch’s historic tramway restaurant.
After customer feedback, GJNZ has also implemented reverse tour options for the upcoming season for those looking to travel from South to North instead of North to South.
Great Journeys New Zealand General Manager Tracey Goodall said: “We are so excited by the success of our first tours this past summer and are looking forward to a full season starting in September.”
“We believe our program is a brilliant way for Australians to experience a scenic rail touring holiday in New Zealand. If they’ve done The Ghan and Rocky Mountaineer, why not try Great Journeys New Zealand?”
