A new luxury Australia train service known simply as ‘Great Southern’ is set to launch in a year’s time, linking Adelaide and Brisbane.
Great Southern Rail, the company behind The Ghan and The Indian Pacific, has revealed it will be adding a third Australian railway journey to its offerings.
The Great Southern will offer a two-night, three-day northbound journey from Adelaide to Brisbane stopping in at the Grampians in Victoria, Canberra and at beaches in NSW.
The four-day southbound journey from Brisbane back to Adelaide will include a beachside dining experience in northern NSW, a tour of the Hunter Valley and Newcastle region and will also provide the opportunity to take in Victoria’s iconic Twelve Apostles.
The Great Southern service is expected to start operation from December next year, with eight departures between then and January 2020.
Comprising 28 carriages and two trains, The Great Southern will be able to carry up to 214 guests on each journey.
Onboard accommodation will include the option of Gold Single and Gold Twin cabins, as well as the more exclusive Platinum cabins.
Great Southern Rail’s parent company Journey Beyond said the new multi-day trip would offer “exceptional food and wine and world-class hospitality”.
Fares start from $1,649 per person for Gold Single accommodation, $1,829 per person for Gold Twin and $3,899 per person for Platinum.
These fares include onboard dining, beverages and Off Train Excursions. Bookings open for Great Southern next Monday.
