Intrepid Travel has taken a major step in its Australian growth strategy, confirming the acquisition of Wild Bush Luxury from Experience Co.
The deal adds several premium guided walks and high-end properties to Intrepid’s portfolio.
The expansion includes the Arkaba Walk and Homestead in South Australia, The Maria Island Walk in Tasmania and Bamurru Plains in the Northern Territory, with the experiences officially joining Intrepid in February 2026.

According to Intrepid, the move strengthens its position as one of Australia’s largest walking operators and supports its Climate Action Plan by growing its low-impact, nature-based offering.
“This acquisition is an important step in our ambition to lead low-impact, nature-based travel and invest in the future of Australian tourism,” Intrepid Travel ANZ MD Brett Mitchell said.
“Travellers are increasingly seeking meaningful ways to connect with the land, wildlife and culture, and by expanding our portfolio with iconic guided walks and premium lodges, we’re offering experiences that immerse them in some of the country’s most extraordinary landscapes.”

Experience Co. CEO John O’Sullivan said, “Wild Bush Luxury has been a much loved part of the Experience Co portfolio”.
“However, following a strategic review, we identified that our ongoing growth as Australia’s leading adventure tourism company, is best served by focusing on our scalable adventure experiences including our Marine (Great Barrier Reef), Treetops Adventure and Skydive/Aviation portfolios,” he added.

“We are delighted to hand over these important conservation experiences to Intrepid Travel. Their global reputation for sustainable tourism and immersive nature-based experiences makes them the right partner to continue Wild Bush Luxury’s story.
“We’re confident that our trade partners will benefit from their expertise and commitment, and we look forward to working closely together to ensure a seamless transition for the WBL team, guests and the industry.”
In 2026, Intrepid Travel will launch 10 new family trips and 28 new active adventures as the B Corp sees increasing interest in both tourism sectors. Read more about that here.
KARRYON UNPACKS: For the trade, this signals real momentum in Australia’s premium walking space. Intrepid’s added muscle in the sector gives agents more depth to sell, especially for clients chasing sustainability and comfort in equal measure. Wild Bush Luxury has long been a favourite for travellers who want remote landscapes without roughing it, so its integration into a global brand offers a bigger platform and potentially more consistency. It also highlights a clear trend: premium, nature-led experiences continue to rise, and operators are moving quickly to secure them.
