From Inca Trail to Amalfi: Intrepid launches Premium Walking & Trekking trips

Intrepid Travel has added a new high-end twist to its popular hiking holidays, unveiling a Premium Walking and Trekking range spanning some of the world’s most spectacular trails.

The 10 new trips, available to book from 12 August 2025 for departures from January 2026, will run from three to nine days across five continents, covering Italy, Madeira, Vietnam, Nepal, Morocco, Peru, Jordan and the United States.

Designed for travellers seeking adventure with extra comfort, the itineraries combine guided day hikes with handpicked stays, premium service and standout local experiences. Think hiking Vietnam’s Sapa region before relaxing at a top eco-retreat, or tackling Peru’s iconic Inca Trail before enjoying farm-to-table dining in Cusco.

Premium has been Intrepid’s fastest growing style since launching in 2022, and walking and trekking sales have surged nearly ninefold.

This new category brings the two together for the first time, joining the company’s Basix, Original and Comfort offerings.

Other highlights include trekking Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains, hiking Madeira’s volcanic landscapes, and exploring Jordan’s Dana Biosphere Reserve and Petra from luxury desert camps.

In the US, travellers can stay at the historic El Tovar Hotel on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon or explore Yellowstone’s geysers and wildlife from a comfortable base.

Intrepid says the new product aims to meet growing demand for active trips that also offer a sense of indulgence. According to the small group tour operator, the itineraries balance incredible walks with exceptional stays and authentic local food, so travellers experience the best of both worlds.

With options suited to different skill levels and interests, Intrepid’s new Premium range promises to appeal to hikers who want to swap the backpacker hostel for a boutique hotel – without missing a view along the way.

“In recent years we’ve seen growing demand for active travel, as well as rising interest in the elevated stays offered on our Premium trips,” Intrepid Travel General Manager of Experiences Erica Kritikides said.

“Our new Premium Walking and Trekking range is a natural and exciting evolution – bringing together the best of both worlds for travellers who embody Intrepid’s adventurous spirit but don’t want to compromise on comfort.

“It is designed for those who are eager to take on the challenge of some of the world’s most iconic walking trails yet appreciate a softer landing at the end of the day, plus the exceptional experiences that set these journeys apart.”
