Journey Beyond’s Great Southern rail journey between Brisbane and Adelaide returns for the 2023-24 summer season with grape expectations for passengers through three new Off-Train Experiences that include vineyards in the Grampians and Hunter Valley, a private NGV tour in Melbourne plus a brand-new itinerary.
From 1 December 2023, Great Southern guests travelling from Adelaide to Brisbane can visit the Grampians (Gariwerd) family-owned winery, Fallen Giant Wines, on a guided tour and sample local produce and wines.
Two new Off Train Experiences are also available on the reverse journey from Brisbane to Adelaide.
The Hunter Valley Helicopter optional upgrade experience features a cellar-door tasting at Brokenwood Wines and a 15-minute scenic flight.
In Melbourne, Great Southern guests can now enjoy a private tour of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), ending with a long lunch at Eureka 89 overlooking the Yarra River.
The fifth Great Southern season also debuts a special four-day itinerary, departing on 5 January 2024, from Adelaide to Brisbane with Off Train Experiences in the Grampians, Orange in NSW’s Central Tablelands and the historic country towns of Gulgong and Mudgee.
Journey Beyond EGM of Rail David Donald said: “The new Off Train Experiences dive deeper into the region, complementing the hallmark experiences the Great Southern is known for.”
“We’re thrilled to be welcoming guests on board to sample these new Off Train Experiences and celebrate a fabulous fifth season with the Great Southern.”
