It’s a common lament for some people to return from overseas saying they need another holiday to get over their trip, but a new survey has found 66 per cent of Australians feel so tired after international travel that they need extra time to recover.
So, why are Aussies so exhausted from international travel? It’s an obvious reason and one that travel advisors can definitely assist their clients with.
The money.com.au study also showed that among those who experience post-holiday blues, nearly one in five (17%) say they feel drained after every overseas trip and need time to rest, while almost half say the so-called ‘holiday hangover’ depends on the trip.
Just over one-third (34%) of Aussie travellers say they return feeling rested after an overseas holiday.

Money.com.au’s Sean Callery said sometimes travellers trade work stress for travel stress with packed itineraries, offering the opportunity for experienced advisors to showcase their expertise and knowledge to recommend adding rest days or a slower pace on an overseas trip.
Overseas trip recovery by generations
There’s also a generational divide with Gen Z 34 per cent more likely to feel exhausted after every overseas trip, while only eight per cent of Baby Boomers feel the same way.
In fact, Baby Boomers are most likely to return from international travel feeling refreshed with an overwhelming 52 per cent coming back rested and recharged compared to just 19 per cent of Gen Z.
