Half of all Australian business travellers will reschedule their flights making flexible fares more attractive than ticket costs, according to new booking data from Flight Centre Travel Group’s corporate divisions. And it’s also more lucrative for advisors.

The findings reveal a trend towards Aussie business travellers increasingly aligning their flights to fluctuating schedules.

Flight Centre Corporate Global COO Melissa Elf said Corporate Traveller and FCM Travel customers are willing to pay more for the ability to change their travel arrangements.

“We know productivity and flexibility in travel booking are just as important as the cost of travel. We know this because more than half of our customers’ bookings are rebooked or rescheduled; agility in travel management is essential,” she said.

“With more and more corporate travellers taking to the skies, it’s a real priority that we’re ensuring flexibility and access in a way that’s productive and affordable for our customers.”

Recent FCTG data shows overall international and domestic air capacity reached pre-pandemic levels in the first quarter of 2024, followed by an accompanying downturn in airfares.

Despite global cost-of-living concerns, business travel shows no sign of abating.

“It’s evident across our corporate customer base that travel is non-discretionary and falling airfares both domestically and internationally will keep demand for business travel strong against the backdrop of economic pressures,” Elf said.
