Explore Worldwide has revealed two under-the-radar European destinations making inroads among travellers in 2025 along with perennially popular hotspots as its Aussie bookings to Europe rise 62 per cent year-on-year.

The small-group specialist found Europe accounts for two-thirds (66%) of total bookings from the Australian market.

While Italy remains the top destination among Aussies with a 60 per cent year-on-year increase in passenger numbers, emerging destinations are nipping at its booted heel.

With overtourism in the news, Aussie travellers are also seeking alternative destinations to the likes of classic locations such as Italy and Greece.

Emerging European destinations

On the Turquoise Coast in southwestern Turkey, Kaş is reminiscent of the Greek isles and occupies the site of ancient Antiphellos.

Explore Worldwide customer data shows Turkey and Albania are shaping up as the standout destinations for late 2024 and 2025 bookings.

With a whopping 183 per cent YOY booking growth, Turkey is one of the most sought-after destinations for 2025.

Meanwhile, overall YOY bookings to Albania are up 107 per cent, driven by Explore Worldwide’s immersive small-group Classic Discovery-style tours (up 150%) and Walking tours (up 50%).

Other trending European destinations for Aussie travellers include Portugal (up 126%), Malta (up 89%) and Sicily (up 128% and a White Lotus Season 2 locale) in the Mediterranean.
