1. Snapchat combines video, audio, GIFs, stickers in “Chat 2.0”

Snapchat A new Snapchat update is here and it’s big. With a host of new features you can now view Snapchat stories one after the other via an autoplay feature, more than 200 stickers are now available in private chat, video notes let you record and send a quick 10-second GIF like loop so you can react with your face, audio notes allow you to send voice snippets and video and audio calls can now be started even if the recipient isn’t already chatting with you.

By allowing users to communicate with video, audio, text, symbols and, drawing, conversations can evolve in a variety of different ways, instead of you having to choose how you want to connect before you start a conversation.

2. 60 Second Instagram videos are here

According to Instagram, over the last six months, time spent watching video on the network has increased by 40%. With that in mind the platform has announced two new updates – the ability to share up to 60-second videos organically and the option to create videos using multiple clips from your camera roll.

Research shows that adding video to an existing campaign drives higher favourability than campaigns with static photos only, therefore this added flexibility will be welcomed by brands.

This new feature allows users to add images to photos before tweeting them in a bid to enhance engagement and make content more visually appealing.

4. Pinterest debuts step-by-step how to pins

As Pinterest continues to put a focus on advertising, it’s expanding the free features that may encourage users and brands to stay on the platform longer and engage more with content.

Pinterest has unveiled a new kind of dynamic Rich Pin called a ‘How-to Pin’, this provides step-by-step instructions for cooking, crafting, grooming and other activities. This will allow users to view the entire How-to without leaving Pinterest.

5. Facebook Messenger launches its first airport bot

Facebook Messenger has a new bot that can deliver all your flight info within a thread. The Messenger team has announced that its first airline partner is KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. You have to choose to receive info via Messenger when you book tickets to take advantage of the new feature. Once you opt in the bot can send you your itinerary, boarding pass, check-in confirmation and delay notifications.

This is another move from Facebook to make Messenger much more than just a messaging app.
