Dreaming of a lush island retreat, where you can log off tech and reconnect with nature? Good news, Lord Howe Island is set to welcome travellers from next month.

Has lockdown got you itching to jet off to a tropical island, ignore your phone for a while, and hike/swim/eat/read/snorkel your worries away?

Lord Howe Island has announced it will once again welcome travellers to the island from August 3 this year.

The island has been closed since March 22, to protect around 350 residents on the tiny World Heritage-listed island from the Coronavirus pandemic.

Situated some 600 kilometres off the NSW coast, Lord Howe Island’s isolated location has placed it in a unique position, and no cases of COVID-19 have been reported to date.

The Lord Howe Island Tourism Association (LHITA) considers the health and safety of both the island residents and its tourist visitors to be of the highest priority and is currently working with the island’s tourism operators on developing COVID-safe measures ahead of the reopening.

LHITA Executive Officer Trina Shepherd said the island’s residents were looking forward to welcoming visitors back to Lord Howe, just in time for spring.

“Lord Howe never feels crowded with its cap on visitor numbers to just 400 at any one time, but it’s been especially quiet over the past few months,” Ms Shepherd said.

“There are already strong bookings for the island for September onwards, many of which are for travellers who transferred their bookings from earlier in the year.”

“We think Lord Howe will be extra appealing for Aussies who are keen to travel to extraordinary places again – with no passport required.”

“For many who’ve not yet visited Lord Howe, now’s the time to enjoy a tropical island holiday and explore white-sanded beaches, incredible hikes, and the world’s southernmost coral reef by snorkel or scuba, right on the doorstep.”

Trina Shepherd, LHITA Executive Officer.

“And with no mobile coverage and relaxed wifi, it’s an ideal escape for anyone who’s been working from home and is now experiencing ‘Zoom-fatigue’!”

Let’s go!
