Turbulence causes multiple injuries aboard Sydney-Nadi flight

Four people on board a Fiji Airways flight travelling from Sydney to Nadi were injured after the aircraft, an Airbus A350, hit severe turbulence.

Four people on board a Fiji Airways flight travelling from Sydney to Nadi were injured after the aircraft, an Airbus A350, hit severe turbulence.

According to the airline, those injured during the flight, FJ910, included three crew members and one passenger.  

Details of the passenger have not been released, however, the carrier says that the injuries were not serious.

“Fiji Airways wishes to advise that its FJ910 service today, Wednesday, 2nd April, experienced a period of severe turbulence en route from Sydney to Nadi,” Fiji Airways said in a statement.

“We regret that one guest and three cabin crew members sustained minor injuries as a result. The flight was met on arrival in Nadi by medical staff, and assistance was provided to all those affected.

“Fiji Airways takes the safety and well-being of its guests and crew very seriously and regrets the occurrence of this event. All Fiji Airways services continue to operate as scheduled.

Last year, a Singapore Airlines flight from London Heathrow to Singapore Changi carrying 56 Australians was forced to divert to Bangkok after hitting severe turbulence. The incident left eight Aussies hospitalised.

This week, FJ officially joined the oneworld airline alliance as a full member, giving Australian travellers new reasons to fly with Fiji’s national carrier.
