Updates to New Zealand Traveller Declaration as inbound arrivals hit 73%

The New Zealand Government has changed its arrivals process for international travellers into select airports with digital updates to the New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) effective from 20 July 2023.

The New Zealand Government has changed its arrivals process for international travellers into select airports with digital updates to the New Zealand Traveller Declaration (NZTD) effective from 20 July 2023.

The NZTD changes come as New Zealand recorded 160,359 international arrivals in May 2023, a positive travel recovery to reach 73 per cent of May 2019 numbers.

Of these inbound arrivals, 56,000 were holidaymakers, representing 60 per cent of pre-COVID levels to Aotearoa.

Air New Zealand recently announced reaching 91 per cent of its international network capacity.

NZTD updates

International travellers arriving at Wellington, Christchurch or Queenstown airports now have the option to complete a digital declaration before travelling to New Zealand.

Passengers into Auckland Airport will still need to fill out a paper Passenger Arrival Card, distributed during the flight to New Zealand, until the digital declaration option is available from late August 2023.

All other NZ entry, visa and NZeTA requirements remain the same.

According to the NZTD website, the online process takes about 10 minutes and can be done on your mobile phone or computer via the website or app.

You can complete the free NZTD for all travellers, including children and babies, within 24 hours of travel to New Zealand.

You’ll need to declare your contact details in NZ, flight info, passport details, travel history and info about what you’re bringing into Aotearoa along with your visa or NZeTA, if applicable.

A paper declaration form is also available for those who cannot complete it online.
