Fiji’s drive to fully vaccinate its population has hit yet another milestone, with 85% of its target population now having received its first dose – opening the door to Fiji re-opening to tourism before the end of 2021.

Fiji says it’s on track to reopening its borders before the year is up, thanks to its latest vaccination milestone – with 85% of its target population receiving its first dose.

The Pacific Island nation, which relies heavily on tourism, has vaccinated 498,680 (as of 5 August 2021) with their first dose, with an additional 28% now fully vaccinated.

Fiji confirms it is on target to have almost 100% of its target population vaccinated with its first dose by the end of August.

“Despite the toll of COVID-19 on Fiji, the Bula Spirit here remains strong, and our tourism industry remains optimistic.

“The pathway out for tourism is through vaccination and this is yet another huge milestone for us,” CEO for Tourism Fiji, Brent Hill commented.

“On top of this we have a proactive and supportive industry continuously showing up to support the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in the vaccination campaign, helping support the country’s drive to vaccinate its population by ensuring all staff and their families can get access to vaccines, and helping local villages get to vaccination hubs.

“I’m confident through this collaboration we will have much of the population fully vaccinated before the end of the year.”

Fiji’s tourism industry has got behind the Ministry of Health’s advice to get vaccinated with many of the key hotels and resorts now fully vaccinated, right across Fiji.

Last week South Sea Cruises worked alongside Sea Mercy, a non-profit charity, and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to deliver 4,000 vaccines, PPE and other essential medical equipment to the stunning Yasawa Islands, proving that the vaccinations can and will be implemented right across the depth of Fiji’s many islands.
