Sun Island Tours Co-Founder Celia Polyviou has sadly passed away aged 81. A lifelong travel advisor, she worked in retail agencies in Cyprus and London before emigrating to Australia in the 1970s.

In Sydney, Polyviou worked in retail travel with her husband, Lakis, at the family-owned Kyrenia Travel before establishing Kyrenia Tours (later renamed Sun Island Tours) as a tailor-made agency and specialised wholesaler in 1989.

Specialising in Mediterranean tours, cruises and holiday packages, the Polyvious brought a piece of their heritage to Australia, sharing their passion, knowledge and expertise and inspiring travellers for more than 35 years.

Polyviou was a crucial component of Sun Island Tours in the early days, assisting with the organisation of cruises, tours and accommodation in Cyprus and Greece as the company expanded to include Italy, Turkey and Egypt in its first brochure.

In 1999, her two sons joined the Australian family-owned travel business, bringing new perspectives and fresh ideas, while still focusing on the core destinations of the Mediterranean and Middle East.

Sun Island Tours Joint CEOs John and Paul Polyviou described their mother as “a mum not just to the two of us, but to the entire Sun Island family”.

“She brought great warmth and personality into the office and helped guide Sun Island in the early days. She was full of energy and loved to travel extensively. We shall all miss her greatly.”

Karryon sends our sincere condolences to the Polyviou family, Sun Island Tours and all who knew her.
