California’s sports culture is about to take centre stage with the new documentary, “Gameday,” premiering on Stan today (17 July). A collaboration between Visit California and Australian streaming giant Stan, this special promises to bring viewers an immersive look at the intersection of sports, entertainment and the spirit of California.

“Gameday” offers a deep dive into game day experiences at seven iconic California destinations. These include the Los Angeles Rams, Sacramento Kings, Anaheim Ducks, San Francisco Giants, Long Beach IndyCar Grand Prix, Palm Springs Desert Smash and the San Diego Wave FC in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Each episode captures the adrenaline-pumping excitement and vibrant culture that define California’s sports landscape.

But the show isn’t just about the games. It showcases the history of each team, the passionate fan culture, the electric atmosphere inside the stadiums and the signature food and drink offerings that make each game day unique.

Australian sports presenter Duncan McKenzie-McHarg hosts, produces and directs “Gameday.” He connects with different sports figures at each stop, guiding viewers through a day of must-do activities.

Duncan’s journey is enhanced by the insights of Australian sports figures like Mitch Wishnowsky, punter for the San Francisco 49ers, Melbourne United basketballer Matthew Dellavedova and motorsport enthusiast Kate Peck, who all serve as tour guides.

The documentary aims to capture the essence of each city’s sports scene. Viewers will get an insider’s perspective on the excitement and energy that make California a top destination for sports enthusiasts.

California boasts more professional sports teams than any other US state and hosts major events like the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, FIFA World Cup matches in San Francisco and LA, and the Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in 2026.
