Adelaide Airport’s new calming Sensory Room is now open, offering a dedicated, quiet and low-stimulus space designed for travellers who benefit from a stress-free environment before flying.
The new Adelaide Airport Sensory Room builds on the Australia-first initiative between Adelaide Airport and Virgin Australia for travellers with hidden disabilities to “try before they fly” last year, along with other accessibility programs introduced at the SA hub.
Adelaide Airport also introduced Australia’s first internationally accredited Facility Dog to provide support to passengers.

Located on level 2 near the Virgin Australia Lounge, the Sensory Room features adjustable soft lighting, comfortable seating, small nooks, tactile items, fidget tools and calming visual displays.
Passengers can also bring their own comfort items, such as headphones, fidgets and blankets.

The Adelaide Airport Sensory Room is designed to provide a soothing environment for passengers who experience stress, sensory overwhelm or anxiety when travelling, or need time away from crowds and noise.
On LinkedIn, Adelaide Airport said this initiative reflects its commitment to enhancing accessibility and delivering a more inclusive travel experience for all.

The Sensory Room is free to access with set time slots available to book online via the Adelaide Airport website. Family members, friends, carers and support workers can also enter the space with passengers.
It’s open from 7:30am – 9:30pm from Monday to Friday and 7:30am – 5:30pm on weekends and public holidays.
