In a bid to create customer confidence and get more people flying again, Emirates has become the world’s first airline to offer free global cover for passenger COVID-19 health expenses and quarantine costs.

While borders may not be opening up in Australia yet, much of the world is starting to fly again in some shape or form.

To keep passengers safe on their journey and provide some extra security, Emirates has boldly become the first airline in the world to offer free cover for travellers health and quarantine costs if they are diagnosed with COVID-19 on their travels.

Launched under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and in conjunction with Allianz Insurance, this unique industry-leading initiative is aiming to boost travel confidence.

The airline says it will cover medical expenses up to EUR 150,000 (AU$245,000) and quarantine costs of EUR 100 (AU$163) per day for 14 days, should they be diagnosed with COVID-19 while they are away from home.

The cover for COVID-19 related medical expenses and quarantine costs is offered by Emirates free of cost to customers, regardless of class of travel or destination.

Emirates in partnership with Allianz Partners is offering assistance services related to COVID-19 medical and quarantine expenses from July 23, 2020, until October 31, 2020.

How does it work?

Here’s how it works.

  • Passengers will automatically be covered when they book. No registration required
  • Passengers get assistance at any time when they fly between 23 July 2020 and 31 October 2020
  • Free global cover for all customers
  • Applies to every travel class
  • The cover is valid for 31 days
  • COVID-19 health expenses up to EUR 150,000 (AU$245,000)
  • Quarantine costs EUR 100 per day for 14 days (AU$163)
  • Free 24-hour hotline support number

While the offer is of course, irrelevant in Australia right now unless you are travelling for essential reasons, it will be interesting to see if this is an offer that continues when the international borders do reopen in this region.
