There is a subtleness to this hotel. A little inconspicuous from the outside but as the doors open, you enter this magnificent lobby that boasts modern and history in a way that has to be seen to be believed. It’s a museum in itself.

CHECKING IN & BEYOND

IMG 9837 e1531895787430

Timber ceilings with angles that represent a wooden ship that was once in the docks. A coral themed work of art rests behind reception that again brings in the ocean feel. Touquise, marble, clean cut defined fixtures, entice you to peruse the space and yet you can not take it all in.

The coolest part is the property has over 53 pieces of modern art known as “Hidden Faces” which will be on display until 04 October 2018. The 2018 Vicotrian Salon des Refuses is a collection from various Victorian artists allowing guests to vote the winner and even purchase the art.

So an hour past and I am still making my way to the check-in counter. Yes I can be easily distracted. Check-in was a breeze. My room was ready prior to the normal check in time and the staff were very attentive.

THE ROOM

Yarra Suite View e1531893408185

Entering the room I was totally surprised as to the amount of space. The Yarra Suite overlooks the charming Yarra River and the city skyline. Dining table, large lounge, desk and comfy reading chair makes this a relaxing place. Overly spacious with separate bedroom, bath and shower separate to toilet plus you have an enormous walk in wardrobe.

Just checked and there are slippers, a coffee machine, ice bucket and a fully stocked fridge.

Premier King

Earthy tone with a splash of aqua green, floor to ceiling windows really opens up the room.

As with the bed? Well let’s just say, those long pillows are the perfect companion when sleeping in a big comfy cloud.

FOOD & DRINKS

Dock 37 e1531893952107

Dock 37, check out the Wine Gantry. AMAZING.

Cafe Orr is the popular cafe with access from the lobby and from street level. Just a little hidden from the main area but the selection of food is great for that quick bite to eat and that needed coffee. Yes you coffee snobs, it’s actually good coffee. 4 out of 5. Service on the other hand 5 out of 5. Great team and so friendly.

Dock 37 Bar and Kitchen holds 120 patrons and offers guests a local Australian cuisine ranging from beef, fish and poultry. The stand out feature is the Wine Gantry above the bar. Make sure you ask them for a walk though. AMAZING. With over 500 wines ranging from Australian to imported vintages, the selection is vast and perfect for that international guest looking for that touch of class or should I say glass.

Who wants to share a 1989 French bottle from Bordeaux?

FACILITIES & SERVICES

Club Lounge e1531894445494

Pacific Club Lounge

Pacific Club Lounge is located on level 4 and is the perfect place to unwind. Zoned to create a dining experience, then as you move through its more of a lounge with privacy booths scattered throughout. Breakfast is included along with drinks & canapes for the Pacific Club members only.

In terms of services, the StarBus express bus service from Melbourne Airport to Pan Pacific Melbourne is only AUD$22 per adult one way or AUD$44 return. Book your transfer with the concierge desk prior to arriving. Definitely worth it as a taxi or uber can cost you around $60.

THE VERDICT

Dock 37, The Wine Gantry

Add this to your list when visiting Melbourne. From the service to the food, location is perfect and there is so much to see and do all around you.

Definitely secure a club level room to access the club floor. The inclusions are fantastic and you can hold meetings, enjoy breakfast there instead of the main area and there are afternoon drinks to enjoy on the deck that overlooks the city. Perfect place to kick off your night before you head out on the town.

DFO is right next door so you can shop your heart out. Walking along the river is just a MUST DO when staying at the property. There are all these cool bars, restaurants and cafes in the area that come to life at lunch time and then again in the evening. The buzz here is building with a mix of locals and tourists.
