Ain’t no watch like a smartwatch

With the world waiting with baited breath for the announcement of Apple’s smart watch, the tech giant already has a few smart and stylish watches to contend with.

Media is abuzz with speculation that an announcement of an Apple smartwatch, alleged to be released in 2015, will coincide with the launch of the iPhone 6 on September 9.

While every tech expert is speculating on the watch’s functionality, from having the capabilities to send messages to simplifying Siri, other companies have champed at the bit to provide those that can’t wait to wrap a piece of pristine technology around their wrists with a little smartwatch themselves.

Here are three smart watches, already on the market, that Apple will need to top in both capability and aesthetic.

Pebble Steel ($249)

One that appears to have hit the nail on the head in both looks and talent, thus far, has been the Pebble Steel. A slinky, sexy little black number that allows you to see “texts, notifications and emails at a glance.” The smartwatch is also athletically apt and allows users to count their steps and plunge under water to the depth of 5ATM.

Razer Nabu ($100 for developer kit)

This slim fitness tracker is a fitness band and a smartwatch in one – though jury is out on whether its design truly classifies as a smartwatch.

The band includes two screens. The first screen tracks your activity levels, steps and what not. The second screen will provide you with alerts about your texts, phone calls and notifications.

The Razer Nabu also allows to users to exchange their social media contacts through a “hand shake”.

Meta Strata ($249)

Keeping up with the brains versus brawn trend is the Meta Strata. Another sleek smartwatch that is 5ATM water resistant and tough on the stakes of durability.

Meanwhile, its bluetooth capabilities send notifications to the screen. Much like other smartwatches, the Strata comes with an extended battery life – up to seven days.

What capabilities do you believe the Apple smartwatch will yield?
