Whether it’s cars that drive themselves, the love it or loathe it – Google Glass, Google translate, or interactive mapping of The Great Barrier Reef and major worldwide art galleries, Google has established itself as one of the most formidable behemoths in tech history.

It’s also transformed the travel industry in so many ways we could have never imagined.

But how did they do it? What’s their secret recipe? Look no further than to Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt himself, who has shared his top lessons learned during his decade at Google, in his amazing SlideShare “How Google Works.”

Among his advice for reaching “business nirvana”: It’s best to work in small teams; listen to the lab coats, not the suits; and have fluid plans with stable foundations.

He also talks about the shift in power from companies to consumers. A point that we’re often reminded of in the travel industry as the trend of user generated content and the rise in using influencers continues to take prominence.

Aside from perhaps Apple, it’s challenging to parallel a business in todays world that has innovated in the many ways that Google has. Can you think of one? I’m scratching my head here.
