A multimillion-dollar level-up: Introducing the new Melbourne Skydeck

Until now, our fave rebrand was when Old Spice took their old-man vibes and replaced them with that cool guy on the horse. But that’s been replaced with news that Eureka Skydeck has renamed itself Melbourne Skydeck!

Until now, our fave rebrand was when Old Spice took their old-man vibes and replaced them with that cool guy on the horse. But that’s been replaced with news that Eureka Skydeck has renamed itself Melbourne Skydeck!

When you’re the city’s most impressive and tallest landmark (actually, the Southern Hemisphere’s highest observation deck #humblebrag), you get to own it.

And own it Melbourne Skydeck does.

Melbourne Skydeck
Discover a new experience at Melbourne Skydeck

This is not only a name change but a next-level, level-up, with a refreshed, multimillion-dollar development, alongside state-of-the-art VR experiences that you simply won’t find anywhere else in Australia. This spectacular upgrade is brought to you by Australia’s leading experiential tourism group, Journey Beyond.

‘The Skydeck formally known as Eureka’, is in the heart of Melbourne city. From the 88th floor, you get to see all the familiar Melbourne landmarks that warm the cockles of your heart – the MCG, Federation Square, Port Philip Bay – alongside expansive vistas far out to the Dandenong Ranges.

While Eureka Skydeck was pretty wow-worthy before, now it’s a jaw-dropping experience from the ground floor all the way to level 88. Through a choice of exclusive activities, everything we know and love about Melbourne has been incapsulated, enhanced and augmented to deepen our feels for the country’s beloved garden city.

Want to know what you can do there? Here are our top picks:

Voyager ™ Theatre

The Melbourne Skydeck Voyager™ Theatre
Voyager™ Theatre features award-winning Positron Voyager virtual reality ‘pod’ chairs that take guests on an immersive journey of discovery

If you like your travel experiences to be revolutionary, then don’t skip the first – and largest – virtual reality theatre in the Southern Hemisphere.

Go on an immersive 6-D (yes six!) journey around Melbourne in the theatre’s 24 cool-as-you-can-get Positron Voyager virtual reality chairs.

As any Melbourne lover knows, Victoria’s coolest city is about more than just its sights. Thanks to the Voyager® Theatre, get transported to the best places, sounds, movements and even scents (coffee, it has to be coffee, right?) without even leaving the room.

Edge

The Edge, Melbourne Skydeck
See Melbourne on the Edge

Another world-first, this one for the most daring of Melbourne Skydeck visitors. Gulp. Yup, this is where you stand in that small glass cube that juts out of the building, suspending you 300 metres above the city streets.

Okay, so this experience isn’t new, and it didn’t need a rebrand, but it’s so spectacular it’s our duty to let you know that one of Melbourne’s most thrilling experiences has reopened.

Plank

(VR) Plank Experience Melbourne Skydeck
Feel what it’s like to balance on a narrow plank at dizzying heights above Melbourne with the (VR) Plank Experience

If you want an adrenaline rush and thrill of thinking you might plunge to your death (but obvs you won’t), then book the Plank VR Experience.

We love it because we like to think we’re super courageous but would never actually treacherously walk across a dizzyingly high wooden beam 285-metres above Melbourne City. But virtually, yes, yes, we’re soooo brave!

Augmented Reality 3-D Model

Breathe light, colour, and life into this plain Melbourne 3D model with your mobile and custom-designed Melbourne Skydeck app

Ah, we love a world-first, don’t you? With innovative thinkers, Australia has a lot of them, if you think about it. And one of those is the new augmented reality (AR) model of Melbourne, scaled at 1:1000.

This is your chance to take a glimpse into past and present Melbs. We’ve always wondered how the city was back in the pre-settlement days, and we’re super curious about the future Melbourne vibes. Well, thanks to Melbourne Skydeck experience, we jump right into these (augmented) experiences!

Bar 88

Bar 88 is the perfect complement to the overall Melbourne Skydeck experience, offering drinks and nibbles with views from the 88th floor.

While Bar 88 is run in association with Champagne Bollinger (and operated by Eureka 89 restaurant), you can order any kind of drinks and premium snacks while you’re living the high life. Although, as we often say (or wish we did), “If you’re going to the top, darling, you’ll need a Bolly.” Champers, it is!

Melbourne Skydeck

The city of Melbourne comes alive in front of your eyes when you take it all in from nearly 300 metres high

360-degree views in built-up downtown Melbourne are about as rare as finding a smashed avo on toast under $20. But rare doesn’t mean impossible, and thanks to Melbourne Skydeck viewing deck, it’s an experience you can revel in seven days a week.

Visiting Deets

Melbourne Skydeck, an experience above all else

Located in the heart of the city, Melbourne Skydeck opens to the public seven days a week from the 15th of December.

Open between midday to 10 pm daily, why not break up your chaotic Christmas shopping with a drink or snack in Bar 88? Or quieten the kids with education and fun at the AR 3-D model? Or swap your caffeine high for an augmented one at the Plank AR Experience?

Melbourne is a one-of-a-kind city, and Melbourne Skydeck’s unrivalled, high-tech offerings are the perfect complement.
