From Asia to Europe to North America, toilet-themed cafes are po(o)pping up all over the place, making us ponder whether the world is turning to $hit…
Eating and defecating are usually two activities we like to keep seperate – ever heard the expression, “don’t $hit where you eat?”
Yeah, most people abide by that little nugget of wisdom.
But not everybody…
Apparently, some of us are pretty obsessed with the old crapper (such as the Japanese; have you ever had the pleasure of sitting on a toilet in Japan before?) and are pretty content with blurring the boundaries between where you $hit and where you eat.
Indeed, some people feel no repulsion towards eating food that looks, but thankfully doesn’t taste, like crap, such as the folks that grab a coffee and some cake at these cafes…
Here are three of the “$hittiest” cafes around the world.
1. Poop Café Dessert Bar in Toronto
At the Poop Café Dessert Bar in Toronto, traditional Asian deserts that are inspired by poop are served in toilet bowls to willing patrons keen on satisfying their sweet tooth – no matter what the desert looks like.
The theme of poop runs (ew!) across the walls and throughout this newly opened cafe in this multicultural Canadian city, and Nguyen, the cafe owner, hopes that his new cafe will remove any stigmas attached to the body’s natural digestive process – he also wants to make “poop cute.”
Hmm, we’ll have to come back and check with old mate Nguyen soon and see whether he succeeds…
2. Ddo-ong Cafe in Seoul
At this Seoul cafe, lattes are served in mugs that resemble toilets and scones that literally look like piles of poop are devoured by crowds of young, hip Seoul-sters.
The Ddo-ong Cafe – which literally translates as “Poop Cafe” – somehow manages to blend cuteness with human excrement in such a way that it actually appeals to people. Quite remarkable indeed.
It’s so successful, in fact, that old mate Nguyen in Toronto might actually have backed a winner on this one.
Who knew poop could be so cool?!
3. Crazy Toilet Cafe in Moscow
At the Crazy Toilet Cafe in Moscow, all things poop are celebrated. Customers are made to sit on toilets whilst given menus that contain poop-inspired meals – such as a brown creamy mushroom soup – all served in toilet-themed crockery.
Eww!
The Crazy Toilet Cafe is so far the only toilet-themed cafe in Europe, and would undoubtedly be the perfect place to celebrate World Toilet Day coming up on 19 November!
