There’s no denying that Australia is photogenic, but which locations got the most Instagram love in 2014? Number 6 will surprise you.

10. Coogee Beach

One of Sydney’s most popular beaches it’s great for water sports, scenic views on coastal walks and family fun. There’s also a plethora of great restaurants around, so let your inner foodie go wild. Fun fact: Coogee is taken from a local Aboriginal word koojah which means “smelly place” because of all the seaweed but daily cleaning from the council now keeps the beach fresh.

9. Melbourne Cricket Ground

The 11th largest stadium in the world, it’s more than just a cricket field, having been chosen for the venue of The Olympics, The Cricket World Cup and the Commonwealth Games.

8. Circular Quay

Rich in both history and spectacular harbour views, it’s no wonder that circular quay made it onto this list. There’s always things going on in circular quay, from art displays to live performances. Some of Sydney’s best restaurants can also be found in this precint.

7. St Kilda Beach

Local Melbournians might make a few jokes about their famous St Kilda Beach but it definitely holds a special place in their hearts. Home to the St Kilda Sea Baths, it’s also known for being a popular site for sailing, windsurfing and other recreational sporting activities.

6. Grounds of Alexandria

Yes, number 6 on the list is pretty much a fancy coffee shop, beating some of our famous travel attractions. They do serve some amazing food and coffee, which has troves of locals lining up outside its doors. I’m sure The Grounds’ mascot ‘Kevin Bacon’ features in a lot of their snaps.

5. Gold Coast

The most populous non-capital city in Australia, the Gold Coast has many attractions, including Surfers Paradise Beach, Movie World and Sea World. Along with beautiful women, hunky men and its devastatingly gorgeous beaches, this jewel on the sunshine state’s crown is just too photogenic not to take a spot on this list.

4. Bondi Beach

Bondi is an Australian icon. Some would argue that this beach is what people from overseas would envision when they think of Aussie beach culture. It’s also rich in history with the world’s first Surf Life Saving club (founded over 100 years ago).

3. Sydney Harbour Bridge

The old coat hanger jumps straight into the number 3 spot, and it deserves it. I’d say the Sydney Harbour Bridge is the hardest working landmark in Australia with daily traffic jams during peak hour traffic, tourists climbing all over it and it still has to put up a pretty face for one of the world’s most famous NYE celebrations.

2. Darling Harbour

I always tell my friends that Darling Harbour is the beating heart of Sydney. There’s a myriad of free events and festivals throughout the year, not to mention the parks, restaurants and the shopping options you have available. Sometimes we even have giant rubber ducks floating on the water.

1. The Sydney Opera House

No surprise here, with the iconic sails of The Sydney Opera House being our most recognised landmark. It’s also hailed as one of the world’s most distinctive performance venues. Add to this some Vivid Sydney lights and several amazing performances and it’s no wonder that it tops the list.
