Heading to the movies? George Clooney and Julia Roberts’ latest flick “Ticket to Paradise” was filmed in Queensland with hotspots such as the Whitsundays, Gold Coast and Brisbane starring on the big screen as stand-ins for the fictional movie setting of Bali. Here’s where you can visit the real-life locations in Queensland.
Most Aussies would know that George Clooney and Julia Roberts spent several months filming their latest rom-com in Queensland, but can you spot the real-life Tropical North Queensland backdrops that doubled as Bali?
Hamilton Island was one of the locations that played backdrop in several scenes, including “Bali” airport aka Hamilton Island Airport, One Tree Hill and Hamilton Island Resort.

The arrival by boat, which features in the movie trailer, was actually Katie’s Cove on Haslewood Island in the Whitsundays. Dent Island also features in the floating boat scene and some may recognise the luxe environs of qualia in a few scenes, one of Australia’s most luxurious resorts.

For the jungle-trekking scene ostensibly set in Ubud, Bali, the real-life location was Curtis Falls in Mount Tamborine National Park within the Gold Coast hinterland. The canefields shot was Norwell, just north of the GC.

The LA art gallery scene was set in another GC location – HOTA, Home of the Arts, while the Bali market haggling site was actually the Gold Coast’s Pall Mall Carrara Market.

Brisbane also makes some cameo appearances in the Hollywood rom-com. The swimming with wild dolphins scene was filmed at Tangalooma Island Resort, located in Moreton Bay off Brisbane, while the uni graduation scene was Brisbane’s own City Hall.
