Leading small-group adventure specialist Explore Worldwide recently launched its Upgraded tour series, with the Upgraded – Discover Morocco tour being one of the first departures. The inaugural tour welcomed its first guests, including Emma Fehon from the Australia & New Zealand Explore team, who joined to experience the journey firsthand.
This carefully curated journey blends stylish stays in traditional riads, authentic local meals experiences, and expertly guided explorations through Morocco’s cities, mountains and desert – all in small groups of no more than 14 travellers.

The nine-day tour begins in Rabat, Morocco’s political and administrative capital, where guests stay in traditional Moroccan styled villas set in beautiful gardens. After a day exploring the intricately carved Hassan Tower, Andalusian gardens and Kasbah des Oudaias, the next stop is Chefchaouen, the famous ‘blue town’ of Morocco.
Nestled beneath the towering peaks of the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen is a photographer’s dream. Its stacked white and blue houses, framed by red-tiled roofs, are a highlight for most guests. After exploring the artisan stalls in the medina, guests are welcomed into a family home for a delicious three-course traditional Moroccan meal. The two-night stay in Chefchaouen is spent in a beautifully decorated riad in the heart of the medina.
The tour continues with stops at the ancient ruins of Volubilis, a garden wine-tasting at a local winery, and guided tours through the medina of Fes, where weavers, coppersmiths, and tanners are hard at work. The premium riad in Fes feels fit for royalty, with grand entrances, palatial furnishings, hammam spa rooms, and intricately carved mosaic detailing on the walls and courtyards, all centred around a stunning feature pool.
Departing from Fes, guests journey through the foothills of the Atlas Mountains enroute to Ouzoud, where they stay in a traditional Kasbah guesthouse and have the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely walk to the Ouzoud waterfall.
The final destination of the tour is Marrakech, a city defined by vast open rooftops, maze-like streets and bustling souks. With a local guide, guests navigate the labyrinth of spice-scented souks, passing by craftsmen selling rugs, leather goods and crockery. The journey ends with an unforgettable dinner under the night sky in the Agafay Desert, paired with a stargazing experience.
There is also an option to add a three-night stay in Essaouira, a quaint port town on the Atlantic Ocean. This tranquil getaway provides the perfect contrast to the vibrant atmosphere of Marrakech. View this extension here.
