Fiji says “bula” to BeReal, becoming the first country in the world to launch an account on the popular new social media app that prioritises authentic personalised content and meaningful connections to share the real Fiji experience.
The island nation will be serving “realness” on BeReal with daily posts to feature Fijian locals, who are known for their warm and genuine welcomes.
Working with locals, the official Tourism Fiji BeReal account will upload one unedited post each day, giving would-be holidaymakers a reprieve from the often-altered images seen on other social media apps.
The app challenges users to share a simultaneous snap using a smartphone’s front and back camera where users are unable to edit or filter the images and is currently the most-downloaded app in Australia.
The Fiji BeReal account will showcase the truly special people and places that Fiji has to offer.
Locals will be given access to the account to share a glimpse of the nation’s stunning vistas and views and showcase the islands outside of the refined resort lifestyle as Fiji’s June 2022 visitor arrivals bounced back to 75 per cent of 2019 levels.
Fiji has joined the latest social media phenomenon amid growing demand from social media users to see more honest and unfiltered content.
Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill said: “Beyond its stunning vistas, Fiji is also known for its people who radiate happiness. The platform gives us the opportunity to showcase those responsible for Fiji’s iconic ‘bula spirit’, the local desire to be kind and generous to everyone they meet.”

The BeReal app has been downloaded 28 million times with 22 million active daily users globally.
