How to become a Weekend Warrior

The harder we work during the week, the more important our weekends become in helping us rejuvenate, recalibrate and feel human again.

The harder we work during the week, the more important our weekends become in helping us rejuvenate, recalibrate and feel human again.

That’s why a curious crop of weekendists are breaking out of their offices before rush hour every Friday to uncover all the epic getaways right on our Sydney doorstep.

With this in mind, Whitestar Travel organized a superb evening at the end of May at The Travel Cafe, which offered inspiration and advice to anyone wanting to be adventurous and do something different over their weekends.

During a stimulating question and answer panel session we heard from some of Sydney’s most exciting travel influencers. They included, Jaharn Giles, the brains behind the extremely popular travel blog/website Mister Weekender, as well as Henry Brydon, founder of We Are Explorers, who in 2010 decided to cycle from London to Sydney rather than pay for the plane fare.

Why not go for a bike-ride over the weekend to clear your head.

Andrew Braithwaite and Jill Burns, the team behind Let’s Go Somewhere completed the line up. With their website launching in only a few weeks time, it will be a one-stop shop full of travel tips, guides and accommodation options to encourage others to get out and explore Australia.

Here’s a few recommended destinations that we now have on our ‘to do’ list:

  • Kangaroo Valley – 2 hours drive south from Sydney. Camp or rent a cabin. Activities include kayaking, hiking and biking.
  • Royal National Park – 45 minutes south from Sydney by car. You can also get there by train…or cycle if you’re feeling more adventurous! Take the tent and camp at the south end of Garie Beach
  • Crescent Head – A bit further away this one. Either drive 5 hours north of Sydney or take a short flight to Port Macquarie. Supposedly great surf!
