For the second consecutive year, Los Cabos has proudly hosted the Los Cabos Half Marathon organized by RunCabo on February 8 in San Jose del Cabo.

The race route offered the 1,400 registered runners – hailing from Mexico, United States, Canada and Europe – 21 kilometers of history and natural beauty as it commenced in historical downtown San Jose del Cabo and continued through the hotel zone and into the picturesque Puerto Los Cabos Marina.

“We are thrilled with the results of the Los Cabos Half Marathon weekend.”

                 Ruben Reachi, Secretary of Tourism

“This event embodies the spirit of Los Cabos – we are recovering from a very challenging year but we continue to make great strides toward our goal of offering an amazing, enhanced vacation experience to all our visitors. Sporting events such as Los Cabos Half Marathon and the many others planned for this year – Los Cabos Open of Surf, IRONMAN Los Cabos and our many fishing and golfing tournaments – are incredibly important to the recovery effort and highlight the versatility of our destination.”

The Los Cabos Half Marathon event consisted of two race routes – a family friendly 5K route and the scenic 21K route. There was also a children’s “mini marathon” where kids ages 9-14 participated in a 3K race. The winners of the Half Marathon were Salvador Guerrero (men’s winner) from Ocotlán, Jalisco with a time of 1:12:55 and Miriam Teresa Ramirez (women’s winner) from Los Cabos with a time of 1:32:04.

The weekend kicked off on Saturday, February 7 with a RunCabo Health & Fitness Expo, which took place at the Barcelo Grand Faro hotel and included seminars and lectures by special guests such as US Olympian and renowned trainer for the runDisney Marathons Jeff Galloway, who presented a seminar entitled “How to Train For a Marathon” and “How to Compete or Complete an Event.” The event also included a roundtable discussion with Benjamin Paredes (veteran athlete) entitled “Experiences of Mexican Runners” and Araiz Arriola, Mexican journalist and marathon runner.

Both Galloway and Paredes participated in the Los Cabos Half Marathon along with other VIPs including John Hughes, Director of the Disney Marathon in Orlando, FL; Vanessa Huppenkothen, TV personality from Televisa Deportes and Mariana Echeverria, Mexican actress.

A portion of the proceeds from the 2015 Los Cabos Half Marathon events will go directly to the TriCabo Kidz Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and strengthening sports among children in under privilege communities in and around Los Cabos.
