I’ve spoken of my love for everything Mountain Goat beer previously. I think they’re just the bees knees and am yet to meet a Goat beer I don’t like. So I was super excited when I heard that Brewski would be tapping the only keg in Queensland of the Mountain Goat Barley Wine Barrel Breed. The. Only. Keg!

This beer was just crowned Champion Australian Beer at this year’s Australian International Beer Awards, and I had some serious FOMO (which I never really get about anything ever!).

So anyway, off we toddled after work on Friday to Caxton Street, where it was dead quiet everywhere except Brewski. Apparently they had been jam packed since 4.30 (though not surprising really).

We paid a pretty penny for 2 schooners and settled ourselves into the corner for The Big Taste. It was incredible! It’s definitely the most intense beer I’ve ever had in my entire life, but it was really, really good.

It had been barrelled in whiskey barrels from the Lark Distillery in Tasmania for a couple of months, and those whiskey flavours were definitely present – it kind of reminded me of Christmas. It was also quite a sweet beer, and was packed full of lovely caramel-ly toffee flavours, which were the perfect flavours for the rainy evening that it was.

A fireplace would have been the only thing that could have made it better.

Mmmmmmmm. So good.

Sticking to the goat extravaganza theme, the amazing Goat Pie Guy had also delivered a whole bunch of his Wagyu Brisket with Surefoot Stout pies to Brewski for the night. So obviously we had to have one of those as well. Responsible drinking right?

Seriously, that is such a good looking pie.

Omnomnomnomnomnomnom…

The GPG really know how to make a flavourful pie. Though I have to admit, it was perhaps not the grandest idea to try to wash down a nice thick saucy pie, with a nice thick barley wine. There was so much going on in my mouth, it was like I needed another beer to wash down the beer! But you know, first world problems.

Rumours have it that the next Barrel Breed will be an imperial stout. This was Brodie’s response:

Have you tried Goat Pie Guy before? What’s your favourite type of pie?
