REAL LIFE FAIRYTALE: Sydney just got its own Disney-inspired degustation

You're never too old for Disney. Creative chef Nelly Robinson of Nel. restaurant in Sydney can vouch for that. His nostalgia for his favourite childhood films has seen him dream up an imaginative Disney-inspired degustation menu.

You’re never too old for Disney. Creative chef Nelly Robinson of Nel. restaurant in Sydney can vouch for that. His nostalgia for his favourite childhood films has seen him dream up an imaginative Disney-inspired degustation menu.

Chef Nelly describes himself as “a big kid at heart” who loves nothing more than to bring out the inner child in his guests. Are you in?

His says his greatest reward is seeing the curious and excited reactions when each Disney-themed dish is placed down on the table.

The magical menu revolves around some of his favourite characters and scenes. The meal begins with a Mary Poppins inspired “Spoonful of Sugar” and finishes with the “Seven Moods” of the Seven Dwarves.

Inspiration has also been taken from Bambi (this one is a little sad, think venison), Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid and Lady and the Tramp.

“Kiss the Tramp” is a crunchy spaghetti with basil pesto, pork, meatball and mozzarella foam while Nelly has recreated the famous long nose from a certain untruthful puppet from a truffle and gruyere cheese gougère.

Oh, and the cocktails will certainly give you pangs of nostalgia.

A tea-infused pisco sour is served out of Chip from Beauty and the Beast while a bright blue genie-coloured gin drink is poured from Aladdin’s golden lamp!
