Australia’s most-popular pet names unveiled ahead of Valentine’s Day and Tiger, Happy feet and Big Duckie are making a surprising debut…

A popular online destination for unique and unforgettable Valentine’s Day experiences has ranked the top pet names (and we’re not talking the furry variety) chosen by Australians for their loved ones – and it appears that Sweetheart, Sexy and Princess may be on their way out the door while the likes of Tiger, Happy feet and Big Duckie make a surprising debut.

RedBalloon, which sells a gift as often as every 3.3 seconds during key gifting periods, analysed purchasers’ gift messages to their significant other to unveil a ranking of the most popular cutesy partner names ahead of 14 February.

Proving that old classics are the best, the name holding strong ahead of any other is Darling, so popular in fact that double the amount of Australians are likely to call their partner by this than the second name in line, Dearest. This was followed, in order of popularity, by Baby, Beautiful and Lovely.

Names middle 3

However, a brand that drives a sense of adventure among Australians, RedBalloon has also selected its favourite ‘out-of-the-ordinary’ names that have made an appearance for the first time this year, with the likes of Chi Chi and Mr Drop Bear raising a few eyebrows.

“We’re in the business of giving good times so there’s nothing we love more than when a surprising name comes through on a gift message – it never fails to make us smile.”

Naomi Simson, Founding Director of RedBalloon

“It also shows that our customers share our value of having a sense of humour and fun. The more adventurous the name, we’d like to think the more unique the experience they choose.”
