Airline Giant Emirates appoints former Qantas Airways executive and Helloworld boss, Rob Gurney as its top representative for Australia and New Zealand.

Emirates has today announced the appointment of Robert Gurney as its Divisional Vice President, Commercial Operations, Australasia.

Emirates said Mr Gurney would now assume local responsibility for its wide-ranging alliance with Qantas, as well as heading one of the Dubai-based airline’s top three global regions for traffic. He will join the organisation 1 October, 2014 and be based in Sydney.

Mr Gurney has held a number of senior aviation and industry positions and joins Emirates from his most recent role as CEO of the helloworld group.

Mr Gurney had served as the head of Helloworld, which is part-owned by Qantas, until March. Bryan Banston, who is currently Vice President Australasia, has elected to leave the company.

The airline has confirmed that Banston will leave the company on the 10 October.
