The ultimate upgrade: why HX's Expedition Suites redefine comfort

Polar exploration was once defined by hardship. In 1922, English explorer Apsley Cherry-Garrard documented its extremes in The Worst Journey in the World, capturing an era when endurance was essential to the experience. Today, with HX Expeditions’ Expedition Suites, guests explore the planet’s most remote regions from expansive, stylish private suites that balance authentic adventure with premium comfort and design.

Polar travel, elevated

Designed as serene sanctuaries at sea, HX Expedition Suites reflect understated Nordic design paired with purposeful functionality.

Expansive picture windows frame vast polar landscapes, while private balconies — some featuring outdoor hot tubs — offer uninterrupted immersion in ever-changing scenery. Icebergs drift silently past. The Midnight Sun lingers late into the evening. Wildlife sightings unfold directly from the privacy of a guest’s own suite, with in-suite binoculars thoughtfully provided.

Inside, generous lounge areas provide space to unwind following Zodiac excursions and shore landings. Ample storage accommodates expedition gear with ease. Large en-suite bathrooms with premium fittings (select suites include bathtubs), plush bedding and a single-serve coffee machine with curated teas create an environment designed for restoration as much as discovery.

Expedition Suite benefits

Beyond the enhanced accommodation, Expedition Suite guests enjoy a collection of carefully considered inclusions designed to create a seamless voyage:

These include:

  • Welcome Champagne on arrival
  • A restocked in-suite minibar
  • Daily turn-down service
  • Priority boarding and expedited embarkation
  • Exclusive access to Lindstrøm Restaurant
  • A pre-embarkation experience at Arakur Resort & Spa for Antarctica suite guests

On board MS Fridtjof Nansen and MS Roald Amundsen, select suites also include complimentary in-suite dining from Lindstrøm during restaurant hours — allowing guests to enjoy a leisurely morning coffee on their balcony or a privately served dinner framed by polar wilderness.

Dining as an extension of exploration

While early polar expeditions relied on sustenance alone, today’s explorers enjoy a more refined approach.

Reserved exclusively for suite guests, Lindstrøm is HX’s intimate fine-dining restaurant inspired by Norwegian polar heritage. Here, locally influenced menus are thoughtfully curated and paired with attentive, personalised service.

Expertly prepared dishes blending Scandinavian flavours with global influences are presented against a backdrop of glaciers, fjords and wildlife-rich coastlines. Premium wine pairings and panoramic views transform each meal into a natural extension of the expedition itself.

New benefit for Antarctica Suite guests

For the 2025/26 season, Antarctica suite guests benefit from an elevated pre-expedition experience in Ushuaia.

On arrival, guests are transferred to the striking Arakur Resort & Spa, positioned high above the Beagle Channel within the Cerro Alarkén Nature Reserve.

While guests relax with sweeping Patagonian views, a gourmet lunch and access to spa facilities, HX manages remote check-in and transfers main luggage directly to the ship. The result is a seamless, unhurried start — ensuring travellers embark rested, composed and fully immersed in the journey ahead.
