It’s hard to find another destination in the South Pacific that’s more photogenic than the Isle of Pines in New Caledonia. But don’t take our word for it.
The Isle of Pines is known as the “Jewel of the Pacific” and is named after its signature Araucaria pine trees.
The isle is fringed with the clearest water you’ll ever see, and blessed with an evocative and exotic landscape that’s just so perfect for Instagram.
Just how perfect you ask?

Here are just 5 of the possible shots you could upload to Instagram when you visit New Caledonia’s stunning Isle of Pines.
*Cue drool.
1. Sail to Nokanhui islet.
Sink your toes into some of the whitest, softest sand in the world at Nokanhui islet, and make all of your friends back home insanely jealous with a few choice snaps.
The warm lagoon waters that surround the islet are perfect for swimming and snorkelling too, so you may want to make sure your camera or phone is waterproof.
The best way to wrap up the day is gorging on a fresh seafood lunch (grilled rock lobster, anyone?) on Brosse islet. A slice of pure heaven.
2. Climb N’Ga Peak.
Runners? Check. Water bottle? Check. Selfie stick? Check.
That’s the mental check-list you’ll want to run through before beginning your 1-hour ascent up the highest point of the Isle of Pines (262 metres).
You’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the island, the pine trees, the surrounding islands, and – of course – the many shades of blue and turquoise that stretch off to the horizon; the perfect background for a selfie.
3. Take an epic profile picture.
Turn a few shades darker in the sun drenched Isle of Pines and show off that body of yours you’ve been working on all year.
You certainly don’t have to look too hard for a stretch of sandy beach to lay out on for an hour or two around here. And when your friends finally start liking and commenting on your newly uploaded profile picture on Facebook, it will make all those long, hard, sweaty gym workouts totes worth it.
4. Meet the cute little locals.
Take some time out from all the relaxing, swimming and sun-baking and meet some of the friendly locals, especially the little ones that are very, very cute!
Although New Caledonia is a French-speaking country, the language barrier shouldn’t get in the way of you taking some lovely shots to upload to Instagram – everyone seems to know the gesture for “can I take a picture of you?” no matter where they come from.
5. Eat the famous Isle of Pines snails.
Tuck into some of these delicious local delicacies – known locally as “Escargots de l’Ile des Pins” – and taste for yourself why these snails are the pride and joy of the local culinary scene. Then upload a colourful photo of your meal on your Instagram.
The snails live in forests and are farmed by the locals, who then sell them onto restaurants throughout the island.
Le Meridien is known for serving up excellent snails.
