Google’s annual Year in Search results are out, and New Caledonia made Australia’s top 10 most searched destination. Not just once in the top 10, but twice, with Aussies searching for info about both Nouméa and New Caledonia! It looks a lot like Calédonie is already 2024’s hottest destination. Ready to jet there? Read on.
With its glorious white-sand beaches, ocean more sparkly than a Taylor Swift dress, wide range of activities, and diverse cuisine, it’s not surprising New Caledonia tops the most searched travel terms for 2023. Especially as Aircalin launched their direct Melbourne to Nouméa flights in December.
So much to see & do (& search)
While we were frankly a little alarmed to see ‘How to solve a Rubik’s Cube’ at #4 in the How-To category (like seriously, did we time warp back to the 80s to help people out?). And we’re a tad concerned you’re spending your time searching ‘Why is Gwyneth Paltrow in court’ (#5 in the Why category).
We’re not, however, at all surprised to see the wonders of Nouméa and New Caledonia hit the Top 10 Google Most Searched list for travel. And this island nation is up there with the best. Like Australia’s beloved playground, Bali (#1), and one of 2023’s trendiest destinations, Tokyo (#2).
Nouméa (#7) and New Caledonia (#9) are not only hanging with the all-stars, but they’re also the only two Pacific Island destinations to make the top 10. Even France didn’t make the list! Perhaps because Australians now know New Caledonia offers fancy French things (and better beaches) without the jetlag!
C’est magnifique, as they would say both in France and New Caledonia.
Get closer to what you love
Do you crave days spent snorkelling, sunbathing, and sipping spritzers poolside? Maybe you love discovering something unexpected on your travels? Perhaps you’re keen to make your annual family vacay a breeze?
It’s all possible when you head to Nouméa; it’s so easy to get closer to what you love when your flight time is so short.
Search New Caledonia and Nouméa in Google right now and you’ll find stacks to discover.
Results for Nouméa reveal travel ideas that could take you weeks to check out. With exciting activities like the bustling Port Moselle markets, day-tripping to nearby Amédée Island, and connecting to the local Kanak community at the Tjibaou Cultural Centre (the building is also an architectural masterpiece), there’s something for every kind of traveller.
And a New Caledonia Google search will net you experiences like meeting the French cowboys of Bourail, swimming in (or skydiving over) the UNESCO World Heritage lagoon, and experiencing the incredible natural wonders on Île des Pins (Isle of Pines).
The country’s landscape is truly diverse, from the West Coast’s outback plains to the deserts of the Great South and – of course – all the postcard-perfect beaches and lagoons. New Caledonia offers multiple holidays in one for up-for-it explorers.
We say up-for-it, because your ideal New Caledonia holiday may just be a relaxing beach stay, which is perfectly valid and viable. However, you can also choose to road trip and island hop to make the most of your visit. There’s so much on offer, you can choose how much action you’d like every day of your stay.
Fly direct in record time
With direct Aircalin flights from Brisbane (two hours), Sydney (under three hours), and now Melbourne (3.5 hours), it’s never been easier to reach paradise. Beat that Bali and Tokyo!

This includes an enhanced interactive entertainment system, meal and beverages, plus 23 kg of luggage per person. Plus, sporting enthusiasts who book with Aircalin, can take a piece of sporting equipment up to 23kg (e.g. golf clubs) for free on Aircalin Operated flights (excludes Codeshare flights).
