Tourism New Zealand has entered the national chat, inviting Home and Away’s Irene Roberts (Lynne McGranger) to spend a week-long vacay in NZ to celebrate her retirement from the long-running soap after three decades via a cheeky campaign.
NZ’s peak tourism body used mobile billboard trucks and trikes in Sydney’s Palm Beach (aka Summer Bay) to share messages such as “Irene, you’ve been home for 30 years, now try away” with the recent Gold Logie award-winning actor.
In addition, Air New Zealand has dropped a limited-time three-day sale on trans-Tasman flights. Until 22 August 2025, Aussies can score one-way tickets to NZ from AUD$259.
Sale one-way flights include Sydney–Wellington from $259, Melbourne–Auckland from $269 and Brisbane–Christchurch from $269.

After being a constant presence on TV screens since 1992, McGranger announced that she’s finished filming the show and her character’s final storyline will wrap up in the coming weeks.
So, Tourism NZ has reached out with a holiday offer for the actor and a guest to hop on a flight to Aotearoa New Zealand and enjoy a curated itinerary of experiences, including a luxe stay at Auckland’s Hotel Britomart.

Tourism New Zealand CEO René de Monchy said to McGranger: “You’ve spent three decades working hard to entertain Aussies and Kiwis alike, and we know you’re going to want to put your feet up. So, to celebrate your retirement from the show we’ve designed the ideal vacation just for you.”
Air NZ General Manager Australia Kathryn O’Brien added: “After 30 years at home, you need some time away. We’re thrilled to host you and a guest on a trans-Tasman adventure; and because you’ve been such an icon we’re sharing the love with all of Australia thanks to our three-day sale.”
Tourism NZ recently launched the latest iteration of its successful global ‘100% Pure New Zealand’ campaign.
