Hodor to DJ in Australia for Rave of Thrones

All you Game of Thrones lovers out there will instantly feel like you know the single word character of ‘Hodor’ like a dear friend.

All you Game of Thrones lovers out there will instantly feel like you know the single word character of ‘Hodor’ like a dear friend.

After all, the gentle giant’s been trudging all over the dark and cold lands of Westeros and the North, piggybacking the paraplegic young Brandon Stark for the last four seasons of the hit TV series while stating his name on repeat.

But perhaps what you may not know is that 38-year-old actor Kristian Nairn has a lot more secrets up his grimy sleeve than his happy go lucky, mono word character Hodor may have given away previously.

For a start, he really is that big, standing at over seven-feet tall. He also used to be a resident DJ at Belfast’s Kremlin club for well over a decade, and it’d be fair to say has had a relatively random CV before Game of Thrones came along.

From being a musician to a student of the performing arts – “I actually started off – believe it or not – doing drag, I travelled the world because I was a completely off the wall drag artist, and it was really popular, actually. It went down really well.” He told ABC 7.30 Report tonight.

“Then that changed to the DJ’ing and I had an agent through all that nonsense and he put me up for the odd audition, and one of them turned out to be Game Of Thrones, and here I am now in Sydney.”

He’s currently travelling around Australia on tour with his DJ show ‘Rave Of Thrones’ –a string of themed dance parties for diehard #GOT fans.

The zany/kitsch show features whitewalkers, fire-breathing dragons and GOT characters including Queen Khaleesi shaking her rump and Rob Starkk doing a strip routine wearing a Direwolf head. Plus lots of lazers and of course – plenty of fantastic tunes spun by the great Hodor himself on stage. “It’s a dress-up party and everyone comes together with the one interest,” Nairn even says ‘Hodor’ on the mic.

Does he care what people think about the show?

“I’ve never given a damn. A seven-foot man who dresses as a woman as a job is not interested in what other people think.”

Who would disagree? One word. ‘Hodor’.
