Why Aussies are going goo-goo gaga for adults-only holidays

A recent poll* conducted by leading travel site Luxury Escapes showed 68 percent of Australians would like to stay at an adults-only resort.

A recent poll* conducted by leading travel site Luxury Escapes showed 68 percent of Australians would like to stay at an adults-only resort.

“When we go on a holiday, many of us long for paradise without the interruptions. Even though the laughter of children is a joy, some travellers prefer a more tranquil setting,” said Blake Hutchison, GM of Luxury Escapes.

The majority (77 percent) of the Australians who stated they would like to stay at an adults-only resort did not have children living at home. According to stats from ABS**, the birth rate in Australia has been on a steady decrease since 2008.

“With the increase in the number of adults who don’t have children, this is a growing market. The demand for luxury without the interruptions has resulted in an influx in recent years of adults-only resorts popping up in Australia as well as Fiji, Bali and Thailand,”

Most travellers who book an adults-only holiday on Luxury Escapes are child-free couples or empty nesters, according to Hutchison.

“A holiday for many is a way to escape the responsibilities and pressures of everyday life, so to arrive at your travel destination to find the pool already packed with kids can be a disappointment,” he explained.

According to Hutchison, adults-only resorts tend to be “über-luxurious”, and hence come with a slightly higher price tag.

“You’re paying for the ultimate experience, and is pretty much like going on a honeymoon. The quality of the menu of adults-only resort restaurants tends to be better (no chicken nuggets!), the spa offering is tailored for lovers with sensational couples-only massages and the resorts are just more serene and tranquil in general,” he said.
