Stopovers and delays always conjure up images of suitcase pillows, walking up one direction to return back the next, endless cups of coffee and a sea of listless faces.

Let’s face it, the airport has never been considered “the place to be” among travellers.

However, with several airports offering an array of desirable experiences, the airport may just become a destination (not that I see travellers booking flights to an airport but here’s hoping!).

Why not try out Heathrow Airport’s personal shopper service?

April this year saw Heathrow Airport introduce a free personal shopping service. Any passengers (yes any, not just first class ticket holders) travelling through the London airport can book a bespoke consultation with an accredited stylist or personal shopper.

The 300 retailers at Heathrow are part of the service, including luxury brands such as Cartier and Gucci.

Dubai’s personal touch

Sometimes we all need a helping hand, especially when bracing enduring the hours at customs and immigration. Dubai International Airport offers Marhaba, a meet and greet service that provides a personal escort through customs and immigration to all silver service members. We’re talking special hand baggage trolleys, complimentary porter services and assistance with luggage and refreshments.

While the butterfly garden is exquisite, Changi airport in Singapore has movie theatres on terminals 2 and 3, free of charge. The movie theatres feature the latest movies from all genres.

However, if movies aren’t your thing, why not experience a brief adrenaline rush on the tallest indoor slide in Singapore.

Or, if you’re a party pooper, just sit on your suit case and sulk, preferably among the butterflies who may flap their wings and perk you up.
