Qatar is gearing up to capitalise on the arrival of an expected one million visitors for FIFA World Cup 2022 with five new tourism developments that span major attractions and new resorts.
The new openings include Doha Winter Wonderland, a 200,000sqm winter-sun attraction with seafront chalets, restaurants, festival games and rides; and Qetaifan Island North aka Qatar’s ‘Entertainment Island’ with floating hotels, beach clubs, a water park with 36 rides and an 85m slide – set to be the world’s highest.
Fuwairit Kite Beach (FKB) – a state-of-the-art kite beach resort, The Outpost Al Barari, a Qatar-first luxury and sustainable lodge resort in the desert wilderness, and the 40,000sqm West Bay North Beach Project tourist development in Doha round out the new sites.
These newly announced attractions add to other recent openings in the past few years, including the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, Desert Falls Water & Adventure Park and Quest Doha theme park featuring the world’s tallest indoor rollercoaster.
Qatar Tourism aims to highlight the country’s hidden treasures and unmissable holiday potential to the world after reopening its borders last July.
Qatar Tourism COO Berthold Trenkel said: “The countdown to the World Cup is well underway and there’s lots of world-class attractions to come before the matches begin.”
“Among the buzz around the tournament itself, we hope people are wowed by Qatar’s state-of-the-art new tourism developments, significantly boosting the country’s appeal as a leading holiday destination.”
