New Guest Experiences at Wilpena Pound Resort

Major upgrades are under way at Wilpena Pound Resort in the Ikara-Finders Ranges National Park following receipt of a $200,000 grant from the South Australian state government.

Major upgrades are under way at Wilpena Pound Resort in the Ikara-Finders Ranges National Park following receipt of a $200,000 grant from the South Australian state government.

The Resort, owned jointly by Indigenous Business Australia (IBA) and Traditional Owners, the Adnyamathanha Traditional Lands Association (ATLA), will use the funds to enhance the foodservice areas at the property.

A new fully catered kitchen will be installed at the stylish Ikara Safari Camp providing guests with the opportunity to sample Indigenous cuisine made directly by Indigenous people, paired with South Australian wines and craft beers.

The new Ikara Meeting Place is appropriately named as it will allow guests at this exclusive 15 tent camp set amongst the river red gums and native pines, the opportunity to gather after a day of touring the beautiful Flinders region and share their stories.

The 400 site Wilpena Pound Campground, which has long been long been a favourite for travellers through the region, will also benefit from a new camp kitchen facility and a new social area that will accommodate large groups and provide much-needed air conditioning.

“This $400,000 investment, including the grant money, is going to make a huge difference to the way guests can enjoy our resort facilities.  We are proud of our Indigenous offering and excited to provide more of these experiences, which will also result in employment opportunities for the local Adnyamathanha people”

Tom Jenkins, Chairman

The upgrade is expected to be complete by September 2017 for visitors wanting to enjoy these new facilities at Wilpena Pound Resort.
