Travel Agents love to play games, have fun, and just generally enjoy life, which is probably why they work in the travel industry in the first place. I mean, how awesome is it to talk about travel all day long?
But there are certain games that Travel Agents like to play that consistently provoke the laughs, and they often involve playing tricks on their work-mates, putting on Oscar-winning dramatic performance, and alcohol – lots and lots of the stuff.
Here are a few ways Travel Agents have fun working in the industry…
Requesting strange meals for colleagues on famil
Picture this: you’ve settled into your seat, made polite conversation with the person sitting next to you, and finally decided on the first movie you’ll watch on your free (and potentially long) flight from x to x. You’re basically kicking goals.
So now, all you need to do is wait for the meal service to begin and then tuck into your tasty plane meal…
But wait – you have a bad feeling about all this. You remember the last time one of your work-mates went on a famil, and you remember the whole office erupting into fits of laughter upon reading on Facebook about the bland meal they were served on their flight – courtesy of their colleagues back in the office.
Indeed, this happens a lot in the industry, and it’s just a little game Travel Agents love to play on their work-mates. Because after all, if you’re lucky enough to bag a seat on a famil to some exotic part of the world – all in the name of “work” – then surely you’re just going to have to (possibly) put up with a little annoyance up in the air.
Fair enough? Most Travel Agents certainly think so…
Role-playing: Operation annoying customers
Travel Agents love to role-play and act out their frustrations with tyre-kicking customers on a daily basis, and they pride themselves on coming up with THE perfect come-back to that walk-in or phone inquiry that wanted to book a last-minute flight to Singapore at Christmas time for under $400 (return), all delivered in a dramatic performance worthy of an Oscar.
But unfortunately, Travel Agents – just like most people – are never really witty enough to come up with the perfect response in the heat of the moment, so they must be content with having a little fun crafting the perfect way to handle such a request amongst their colleagues well after the customer has left the building.
Some Travel Agents even like to film themselves putting on such a performance and then post it on Facebook – just like this guy!
Drinking games!
Okay, so you didn’t think I’d fail to mention the herculean drinking games Travel Agents like to play at pretty much any opportunity that comes their way, right? Buzz nights, product launches, yearly awards – these are all just opportunities for agents to let their hair down and have fun.
Work hard, play hard. That’s a motto most agents swear by and alcohol is just another metric Travel Agents use to compete against each other, in addition to seeing who can sell the most travel each month. And as alcohol’s involved, this is one competition that’s full of laughs (potentially cries).
Just don’t expect the Travel Agents that competed in the night’s festivities to be a lot of fun the next day…
