We’re excited to introduce you to O’Captain of the travel industry! This week he is sharing his ten dreams for 2016…

1.No more stress

I wish an end to branded promotional stress balls – If your brand wants to be front of mind every time somebody needs something soft to squeeze to relieve tension, then maybe it’s time to move brands.

2. Love and peace

I wish for love, peace, and harmony between the Flight Centre Global Ball and The NTIA Awards.

It’s difficult in there are 52 Saturdays each year, and you somehow have to not pick the same day to host your events. The odds are against you; you only have a 98.08% chance of picking a different day from one another. That’s crazy talk. Use the force.

3. More reality TV-series

I wish everyone in the Australian travel industry watched every Australian reality tv show ever made.

So, when the MC of the next event or conference is Hot Dogs (Big Brother 2005), the main act is Scandal’us (Australian Popstars 2), the DJ is Shannon Noll (Australian Idol 2003) and the guest speaker is Jordan Paris (Australia’s Got Talent 2011), we can all actually know the names of the “big name” acts.

No industry is more committed to the preservation of Australian Reality TV Stars than the Australian Travel Industry. It makes me proud. #16minutesoffame #Nollsycandoanything

4. No wars

I hope Flight Centre Global doesn’t break Singapore for Hello World Owner Managers Summit.

5. More merges

post

I wish APT, RCI and P&O merge and call themselves “Apricot.”

6. The perfect dating app

I wish somebody would combine “Airbnb” with “Tinder” and “Grindr” and create “Brothl.”

7. Boozy cab rides

I wish Uber offered free drinks on their transfers, so from the time you leave your home, board your full service airline to take your cruise with its free drink package, the whole travel experience can be one seamless blinder.

8. Wifi on planes

I wish we had wifi on our planes. Because the gap in time between when my industry friends check “The First Class Lounge” with a picture of their ticket and when they check into their destination city’s airport is unbearable…. unbearable.

Also I want wifi on our planes because it’s no longer 1998, and Australians should have wifi on their planes. Actually, since we’re dreaming, let’s dream big and wish, as an industry, we step out of the dark ages, and move into the first world, and offer free wifi in our hotels, venues, trains, buses, and airports.

To international travellers, we are an internet backwater. I’m surprised that international corporate traveller haven’t created a viral campaign against Australia’s refusal to step their game up, but then again, they can’t start a viral campaign without paying $24.99 for a dial-up speed internet with a 10mb cap. Actually, now that I think about it, well played, Australian Travel Industry, well played.

9. Bring back the passenger puffer machine

I wish they would bring back the passenger puffer machine in Airport Security Screening.   If anything, I found it mildly arousing.

10. A prosperous and healthy 2016

Above all, I wish that 2016 will be a safe and peaceful year for the world, and a prosperous and healthy year for us all, and am looking forward celebrating together with all of you as one united, unbreakable, whole travel entity in July either at Flight Centre Global in Singapore or at the NTIA awards in Sydney.
