As the festival capital of Australia, each season offers a reason to celebrate so let’s take a look at what festivals are happening year-round in Adelaide!

Summer

Adelaide’s sunny days and balmy nights are perfect for being out and about in the city. Kickstart festival season with a bang at Santos Tour Down Under.  As the biggest cycling event in the Southern Hemisphere and the first stop of the UCI World Tour, it’s not only a fast-paced and thrilling event but also marks the preparation phase for the Tour de France. 

During the summer, Adelaide becomes a whimsical and vibrant world full of theatre, comedy, cabaret, music, visual arts, circus and so much more for the Adelaide Fringe Festival! Lovingly known as the ‘People’s Festival’, Adelaide Fringe is a not-for-profit, open-access festival. Whether its state of the art VR experiences or a one-person show in a toilet cubicle, there are no creative limits at Fringe.

Autumn

The trees outside might be losing their leaves but it doesn’t mean the fun is stopping. Don’t miss WOMADelaide, a celebration of creative and cultural diversity through the universal languages of music, arts, and dance.

Wow your taste buds at Tasting Australia, the foodie heaven showcasing some of the country’s finest culinary connoisseurs. Make sure you leave room for biennial Barossa Vintage Festival where you’ll be immersed in the region’s famed wine, food, art, and heritage. Indulge in masterclasses, long lunches, and degustation dinners with the picturesque backdrop of the Barossa Valley.

In the depths of winter, the city of Adelaide lights up with a celebration of music, light, art, innovation, and technology for Illuminate Adelaide. Be amazed at the many different light installations across the city with both free and ticketed exhibits on offer.

Don’t miss the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, the world’s biggest cabaret festival that draws in some of the best local, national and international artists through an eclectic program of contemporary and classic performances. Or be blown away by the musical talents of the performers who come far and wide for the Adelaide Guitar Festival. Blues and roots, rock, jazz or classical – whatever the genre, you’ll find it here!

Spring

Watch the city come alive with Feast Festival glittering the CBD. A joyful celebration of the LGBTIQ+ community with over 70 events ranging in cabaret, drag, theatre, comedy, music, visual art, and much more! This safe and inclusive event is a wonderful example of how love and creativity are powerful factors in how today’s society has been shaped.

Immerse yourself in Asia’s great diversity without the hassle of international travel at OzAsia Festival as artists showcase some of the continent’s best dance, music, theatre, film, food, visual arts, and cultural events. Don’t miss the mesmerising Moon Lantern Parade or why not indulge yourself at the Lucky Dumpling Market?

Rounding off the festival season is the largest public parade in the Southern Hemisphere, the National Pharmacies Christmas Pagent! Each year thousands flock to the Adelaide CBD to officially welcome Father Chrismas to Australia. This free community event is a magical experience for young and old as floats, bands, colourful characters and dancers fill the streets with Christmas cheer.
