Hong Kong – served with a twist

Send your clients to the Pearl of the Orient with Qantas – the Flying Kangaroo. But before you do, tell them about these unusual Hong Kong experiences. We're sure they'll love em!

Send your clients to the Pearl of the Orient with Qantas – the Flying Kangaroo. But before you do, tell them about these unusual Hong Kong experiences. We’re sure they’ll love em!

There is so much lurking just beneath the surface in Hong Kong. Instead of informing your clients about all the regular tourist sights – such as Victoria Peak, Disneyland and the Temple Street Night Market – tell them about these rather weird and wonderful experiences up for grabs in the Pearl of the Orient.

They’ll definitely appreciate the fresh ideas, and they’ll certainly appreciate the great service they’ll receive flying Qantas.

Here are some of our recommendations on where to stay, where to eat and what to do.

Stay at the Palm Beach Teepee Village

Who said Hong Kong is all skyscrapers and generic hotel edifices? Stay somewhere different the next time you’re in the Pearl of the Orient and experience the country in a new light.

Located on the south side of Lantau Island (just 30km west of the city and the home of the Big Buddha), the Palm Beach Teepee Village feels like a world away from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong’s busier areas of Kowloon and Central. The air and water is much cleaner here, and the native American Indian Teepees provide guests with a comfortable and clean place to retire to at the end of a day spent shopping, eating or just taking in the sights and sounds of this dynamic city.

Eat the cheapest Michelin Star restaurant in the world

There is no higher praise in the restaurant world than to be awarded the coveted Michelin Star. And with a statement like that, you’d expect to be paying through the nose to dine at a restaurant that bears its praise.

But not in Hong Kong. Not at all. For only $2 – yes, just $2 – diners at the Michelin Starred Tim Ho Wan can feast on Hong Kong’s best BBQ Pork Buns and dumplings. Warning: with only 19 seats inside, a long wait in queue is pretty much guaranteed, so bring a book.

Stop at the Pacman-themed toilet at Delay No Mall

Are you a retro arcade game fan? Is your bladder bursting at the seams? Then kill two proverbial birds with a single stone and pay a visit to the Pacman-themed toilet at Delay No Mall located in Causeway Bay.

Inspired by the classic retro game, this water closet beeps, flashes and plays sirens just like the actual game. Warning: you may never want to leave!

Try snake soup at Se Wong Yee

It may not be the year of the snake in 2016, but that’s no reason not to try some authentic Hong Kong fare. Locals here remain steadfastly traditional about their food, and a nice bowl of snake soup at Se Wong Yee will give you a taste of the real – albeit slightly weird for Western palates – Hong Kong.

The restaurant, nestled in Causeway Bay, has been serving delicious snake meat broth soup for years, which reportedly tastes just like chicken. We’ll let you be the judge on that…

Have your fortune told.

Take a stroll along Hong Kong’s famous Mystic Mile – a street colonised by fortune-tellers of all kinds – and find out just who will be the winner of this year’s Dancing with the Stars comp. Or perhaps something a little more important.

Located a stone’s throw from the Kowloon’s Temple Street Night Market, nearly every kind of mystic art form is practiced and for sale here, including Chinese astrology, palm reading, tarot reading, and – interestingly – fortune-telling-by-bird.

So, what are you waiting for?

Visit Qantas.com and book your clients on the Flying Kangaroo today, and help them see a different side of Hong Kong.
