#KOBeachWeek: 7 awesome beach activities to try

Not everyone just wants to sit around and sunbathe, so for #KOBeachWeek we compiled a list of fun and exciting activities you could do on the beach.

Not everyone just wants to sit around and sunbathe, so for #KOBeachWeek we compiled a list of fun and exciting activities you could do on the beach.

7. Horse ride/camel ride

What better way to explore long beaches and enjoy the sunset than atop a horse or camel, and you even have an opportunity to feed them afterwards to thank them for hauling your butt around for an hour. Highly recommend a camel ride on one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia, Cable Beach.

6. Quad biking

Perhaps you prefer modern machinery and want to ride something with a little more grunt, you could always opt for a quad bike. They offer quad biking for some action on the dunes of Stockton Beach at the Hunter Valley, NSW.

Although, what’s the point of going to the beach if you’re not going to get in the water, you may as well just sit on a sand pit. Get involved with these water activities.

5. Stand up paddle boarding

Here’s the one on the list that I’m personally terrible at. Stand up paddle boarding. If you’re around Melbourne’s famous St Kilda Beach or Avoca Beach at NSW’s Central Coast, then give this a go. They offer private lessons for the uninitiated. You can even turn it up a notch because there’s such a thing as paddle boarding yoga.

4. Surfing

A lot of people overseas tend to typecast Australians as either Steve Irwin types or laid back surfers. It wouldn’t hurt for us to get on the board once in a while, and if you’ve never tried, take some surfing lessons, you can take some short lessons at Manly in Sydney and of course, Surfers Paradise in the Gold Coast. Trust me, the first time you stand on the board is a fulfilling achievement.

3. Windsurfing

If you enjoy watersports then you’ll love a windsurfing lesson. You can skim effortlessly across the ocean, and completely wind powered so Al Gore would be pleased. Don’t worry complete beginners and clumsy people do ok, so there are no excuses not to pop down to Balmoral in Sydney or Sandringham in Melbourne.

2. Parasail

Want to get the best views of the beach? Try parasailing and see the whole thing from above. Don’t worry, it’s marketed as a thrill ride but really it’s no scarier than a children’s roller coaster. You’ll be alright. There are several parasailing experiences available in most cities but I recommend the one that leaves from Manly in Sydney, which offers great views of Sydney’s iconic harbour.

1. Sky Dive

Of course, if you do want some epic thrills you can always opt to sky dive the beach. One of the most memorable experiences in my life, and would definitely recommend it. The views from 10,000ft up are amazing. You can do some tandem jumps at York, Perth Region. These help so you don’t have to worry about anything but enjoying yourself.
