There’s never been a shortage of things to experience during the summer months in the Eastern Sierra. And Mammoth Lakes is the place to be this summer.
Serving as an ideal base camp for a mountain adventure on any budget, Mammoth Lakes continues to evolve, adding a level of sophistication to its rustic charm. This summer that evolution takes the form of several new dining options, events and activities.
Restaurants
Mammoth Lakes’ culinary scene has grown in recent years, both in quality and variety. Several new eateries are now open for summer enjoyment, including:
- The Eatery by Bleu at Mammoth Brewing Company’s tasting room has quickly become a favourite of visitors and locals alike.
- 53, Mammoth’s newest eatery in the heart of the Village, is an all-day affair.
Activities
With a range of options, visitors can experience the mountains at any pace, whether it’s screaming down the mountain on a downhill mountain bike, or a leisurely ride on the gondola.
- The Mammoth Mountain Bike Park is targeting beginner mountain bikers with several new and improved trails aimed at making it easier for beginner and intermediate bikers to feel comfortable on the dirt.
- The Eleven53 Interpretive Center is expanding in its second summer of operation. The first interpretive centre of its kind, Eleven53 visitors learn about the natural and cultural history of Mammoth Lakes and the Eastern Sierra.
- The Pokonobe Resort, has been serving guests for over 50 years and is now being catered by Bleu Handcrafted Foods. Guests can expect an experience true to its authentic Eastern Sierra roots.
Events
With something going on almost every weekend, the events calendar in Mammoth Lakes offers something for just about everyone. This year, a few new events include:
- The inaugural Mammoth Lakes Film Festival will screen over 50 movies during a five day run, May 27-31.
- The Mammoth Food + Wine experience moves to a new weekend this year, June 26-27.
- USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships (July 14-19) return to Mammoth.
- The Hwy 395 Band & Burger Battle is a new event that stemmed from the Mammoth taking place July 17-18.
- The Mammoth Festival of Beers and Bluesapalooza celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. A true Eastern Sierra tradition, the festival annually brings together the biggest names in blues for a four day party. This year’s festival, set for July 30 – Aug. 2.
