Send your clients away to the Thai capital and help them experience a different side of Bangkok with these rather unusual travel experiences – and use Qantas to get them there.
Few cities in Asia can match Bangkok’s frenetic pace, dizzying array of culinary options and traffic-choked streets. But did you know that there’s far more to the Thai capital than the gilded Grand Palace, bargain shopping and pad thai?
As a city of over 6 million souls, Bangkok seemingly has something for everyone, not matter what you’re into.
Convinced yet? Great! Help your clients get under the skin of Bangkok with these rather unusual recommendations on where to sleep, where to eat, and what to do in Bangkok.
Stay at the Bangkok Tree House

Get away from the concrete jungle that is Bangkok and escape to a stylish new Eco-hotel perched among the treetops in an unspoilt peninsula just a stone’s throw away from the city centre. Talk about experiencing a different side of Bangkok!
The Bangkok Tree House takes guests back to a time before Bangkok was riddled with traffic and mass development, providing them with a slice of peace and quiet coupled with that world-class Thai hospitality. Guests here can sleep in a tree, eat organic food, swim in a natural pond, and just generally unwind. Warning: you may find it hard to leave…
Catch your own shrimp at Por Kung Pao seafood restaurant
After a more hands-on dining experience? Handy with the old fishing rod? Then head on over to Por Kung Pao seafood restaurant in the Bang Khen District for a little culinary fun.
Diners here have to catch their own shrimp from a giant pond before giving it to the chefs to actually make a meal out of it. It’s definitely a unique experience that’s apt to provoke a few round of laughter all round. Oh, and just remember: if you fail to catch a shrimp, you go hungry, so be warned!
Get a Buddhist blessing at a temple
Get a dose of Thailand’s spiritual side by attending a monk blessing at Wat Pasee in central Bangkok. In case you didn’t already know, you don’t actually have to be a Buddhist to receive a blessing from a Buddhist.
All you need to do is turn up to the temple (making sure you wear long pants and a long shirt), hand over a small donation, and then clear your mind as the saffron-robed monk chants his way through old scriptures intended to protect and give you peace in 2016 and beyond. Om…
Catch a film at the retro Scala Cinema in Siam Square
Built back in 1967, the Scala Cinema in Siam Square is a good old-fashioned movie house just across the road from the large, modern cinemas in Siam Paragon.
Everything – from the tickets, to the decor, to the seats, to the building itself – has been preserved from this by-gone era, and the domed-ceiling entrance is itself worth making the trip for.
Oh, and the fact that tickets and popcorn are set at bargain prices further sweetens this deal.
Visit the Forensic Museum
Definitely not one for the squeamish, the Forensic Museum on the west bank of the Chao Phraya river is packed to the brim with all things morbid, unusual and just plain creepy. Located inside the Siriraj Hospital, the museum contains preserved human bodies, skeletons, and dissected organs, giving visitors an insight into the human body and its frailty in the face of disease.
Again, this won’t be for everyone, but it’s certainly an off-the-beaten-track experience and something you’ll be able to talk to your friends and family about back home.
